Playing for Cook Street
Being a Peacock is a little different to playing for other teams in the VISL. From culture and community to highly-attended training sessions and the best retention rates on the island, Cook Street offers something special. In 2025, players were surveyed to help club directors understand how to keep improving - and though there is plenty more to be done, the overwhelming majority are extremely happy at the club.
Competition and community
There are almost a hundred 11-a-side men’s teams on Vancouver Island, with most competing in the VISL. Some boast incredible training facilities and slick playing fields. Others have proudly earned century-long legacies or run huge youth academies. While Cook Street does play most of its matches and training sessions at the brand new Finlayson Turf, the appeal of the Peacocks is something else altogether.
Cook Street is one of the newest clubs in island football, founded in 2020 to try and create a community beyond what happens on the pitch.
Despite achieving promotions, winning trophies and reaching finals, what distinguishes the club from others is the culture it has fostered. We believe we offer something truly unique that you won’t find anywhere else. We asked 50+ of those registered in 2024 to rate the experience of playing for Cook Street out of 10. The average response was 9.4, with 91% stating it was the best club they had ever played for.
Read on to find out some of the reasons why becoming a Peacock is so special to those that already do.
