On May 25, 2025, over a dozen players from across the teams at Cook Street laced up their running shoes and tackled one of Vancouver Island’s most scenic road races: the Oak Bay Half Marathon, part of a community-wide running festival along the coastal streets and seaside views of Oak Bay.
This year’s event drew runners from throughout Greater Victoria and beyond, and among them were members of the Cook Street community, along with partners, family members, and supporters who came out to cheer them on. The race offers a 21.1 km route that weaves through local neighbourhoods, oceanfront roads, and supportive cheering zones, making it a local favourite for runners of all paces.
After months of training, both solo and in small groups, the Cook Street contingent showed strong determination and collective spirit on race day. The club’s WhatsApp group, “Cook Street Fitness Chat,” played a big role in keeping everyone motivated through winter and spring runs, training plans, and shared successes. That camaraderie translated into positive energy on the course, where participants supported one another mile after mile.
Among the Peacocks, Cook Street Soul player Karson Sudlow posted the fastest time for the club, finishing the half marathon in 1 hour 25 minutes – a strong performance on a challenging coastal course. But beyond times and splits, what stood out most was the sense of achievement and good vibes shared by everyone who crossed the finish line.
Whether they were chasing personal bests or simply embracing the joy of running together, Cook Street runners embodied the club’s values of community, resilience, and mutual support, and finished the event with smiles as bright as the sunny spring day.
Congratulations to all Cook Street participants and supporters who made the Oak Bay Half Marathon a memorable experience! If you’d like to be part of future fitness adventures, keep an eye out for club training groups and events throughout the year.
